Overview

Patria is a recombinant viral vector vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It utilizes a live-attenuated Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) vector that has been engineered to express a stabilized version of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, known as HexaPro (HXP-S). This stabilized antigen was developed by researchers at the University of Texas at Austin and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to enhance protein expression and immunogenicity. The vaccine is designed for both intramuscular and intranasal administration, with the latter intended to stimulate mucosal immunity in the respiratory tract. Developed by Laboratorio Avi-Mex in collaboration with the Mexican government and international academic partners, Patria was designed to be a cost-effective and scalable vaccine solution, leveraging existing influenza vaccine manufacturing infrastructure.
