Overview

Patuletin is a methoxylated flavonoid, specifically 6-methoxyquercetin, primarily isolated from the flowers of *Tagetes patula* (French Marigold). It is currently being investigated as a potential antineoplastic agent, particularly for the treatment of cervical cancer. The compound exerts cytotoxic effects on human cervical carcinoma cell lines, such as SiHa (HPV-16) and HeLa (HPV-18), by inducing the intracellular production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This oxidative stress leads to significant morphological changes and subsequent cell death. Beyond its potential in oncology, patuletin has been documented in scientific literature for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.
