Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Patupilone is a novel microtubule-targeting cytotoxic agent, also known as EPO906 or BMS-247550, investigated primarily for the treatment of various cancers including ovarian, lung, brain, breast, and gastric cancer. It acts by binding to tubulin and stabilizing microtubules, thereby inhibiting cell division and inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Midazolam is a short-acting benzodiazepine with rapid onset used for its anxiolytic, sedative-hypnotic, muscle relaxant, anticonvulsant, and amnesic properties. It acts as an agonist at the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-benzodiazepine receptor complex in the central nervous system to enhance GABAergic inhibition. The combination of patupilone and midazolam has been studied to assess potential pharmacokinetic interactions; however, no significant interaction was found that would require dose adjustment[1][4][5].
