Overview

PB-119 + metformin is a combination therapy under investigation for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. PB-119 is a pegylated human glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP‑1) receptor agonist, designed to improve beta-cell function and insulin resistance. It acts by stimulating the GLP‑1 receptor, leading to enhanced insulin secretion and improved glycemic control. Metformin is an oral antidiabetic agent in the biguanide class that decreases hepatic glucose production, increases peripheral glucose uptake, and improves insulin sensitivity without causing significant hypoglycemia or weight gain. The combination aims to provide superior glycemic control compared to monotherapy, with clinical trials showing significant reductions in HbA1c and fasting/post-prandial blood glucose levels[6][8][3].
