Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PB-TX-01 is a topical powder formulation containing the monosaccharides l-fucose and d-galactose, developed by PathoBlock Therapeutics for the treatment of chronic wounds colonized by *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. The drug acts as a bacterial virulence inhibitor (pathoblocker) by targeting the bacterial lectins LecA (PA-I galactophilic lectin) and LecB (fucose-binding lectin PA-IIL). By binding to these lectins, PB-TX-01 prevents the adhesion of *P. aeruginosa* to host cells, disrupts biofilm formation, and facilitates bacterial clearance without directly killing the bacteria, thereby minimizing the risk of developing antimicrobial resistance. It is currently in Phase II clinical development in Germany.
