PBF-680

PBF-680 is a novel, potent, orally administered small molecule that acts as a selective adenosine A1 receptor antagonist. It is non-xanthine in structure and does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Developed by Palobiofarma, it is being investigated primarily for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), particularly in patients with eosinophilic phenotypes. Clinical trials have shown that oral administration of PBF-680 leads to significant reductions in blood eosinophil counts and improvements in lung function (FEV1) and other inflammatory markers such as IL-5 and TNFα. Unlike currently approved monoclonal antibody therapies for eosinophilic respiratory diseases—which require injection or infusion—PBF-680 offers an oral alternative with a favorable safety profile[1][2][4][6].
