Overview

PBI-220 is a recombinant immunoadhesin protein developed by Planet Biotechnology for the treatment and prevention of inhalational anthrax. It is a fusion protein consisting of the extracellular domain of the human anthrax toxin receptor, Capillary Morphogenesis Gene 2 (CMG2), and the Fc region of human IgG. Produced using a proprietary plant-based expression platform, PBI-220 functions as a high-affinity decoy receptor. It binds to and neutralizes the protective antigen (PA) component of the anthrax toxin, thereby preventing the toxin from binding to cellular receptors and entering host cells. Preclinical studies in rabbit and non-human primate models have demonstrated high survival rates following lethal exposure to Bacillus anthracis spores.
