PBI-3941

PBI-3941 is an orally bioavailable small molecule analog of PBI-4050, developed by Liminal BioSciences (formerly Prometic Life Sciences). It functions as a dual modulator of G protein-coupled receptors, acting as an agonist of G protein-coupled receptor 40 (GPR40, also known as free fatty acid receptor 1) and an antagonist of G protein-coupled receptor 84 (GPR84). This dual mechanism is designed to attenuate inflammatory and fibrotic processes by regulating fatty acid signaling pathways that drive tissue damage. PBI-3941 was primarily investigated for its potential in treating various fibrotic diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and Alström syndrome, as a next-generation candidate with potentially improved pharmacokinetic properties over its predecessor. However, following corporate restructuring and the acquisition of Liminal BioSciences by Structured Alpha LP, development of this specific candidate has been discontinued.
