Overview

PBI-671 is a novel small molecule neuroprotective agent in development for the treatment of glaucoma. It is administered as an intravitreal injection and is being developed by Perceive Pharma, a company spun out from Perceive Biotherapeutics. The drug was identified through genomic screening focused on neuroprotective pathways relevant to retinal ganglion cell (RGC) survival. Preclinical studies have shown that PBI-671 acts as a potent inhibitor of dual leucine zipper kinase (DLK) and leucine zipper kinase (LZK), both implicated in RGC death, thereby promoting RGC survival in glaucoma models. Unlike current approved therapies for glaucoma, which primarily target intraocular pressure reduction, PBI-671 aims to prevent vision loss by directly protecting neurons involved in disease progression[1][3][5][9].
