Overview

PBL 1427 is a small molecule, orally administered dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor developed by Panacea Biotec for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a reversible competitive inhibitor of DPP-IV, it prevents the degradation of incretin peptides such as GLP-1 and GIP, thereby prolonging their half-life. This action enhances glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) and reduces postprandial glucose excursions without provoking hypoglycemia. The drug was designed to offer improved half-life, potency, stability, selectivity, reduced toxicity, and better pharmacodynamic properties compared to existing DPP-IV inhibitors[1][2][6][9].
