Overview

PBMC immunomodulated with interferon tau (IFNt) is an experimental autologous cell therapy developed by Nadezhda Women's Health Hospital for the treatment of unexplained infertility and recurrent implantation failure (RIF). The therapy involves isolating a patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and culturing them ex vivo with interferon tau, a type I interferon originally identified in ruminants. IFN-τ acts as an agonist at the interferon-alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR) on immune and endometrial cells, inducing the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) and promoting an anti-inflammatory M2 macrophage phenotype. This modulation is intended to enhance endometrial receptivity and maternal immune tolerance toward the embryo. The treated cells are administered intrauterinely prior to embryo transfer in IVF or frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycles.
