Overview

PBPGP22 (also known as PBP-GP-22) is an investigational postbiotic compound developed by Postbiotics Plus Research LLC. Classified as a non-viable microbial preparation, it is designed to mitigate the adverse effects of oral antibiotics on the human gut microbiome. In a 2018 randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial (ISRCTN30327931), PBPGP22 was co-administered with antibiotics to healthy adults to assess its ability to preserve bacterial alpha diversity and prevent microbiome injury. Unlike probiotics, which contain live microorganisms, PBPGP22 consists of inactivated microbial components or metabolites intended to stabilize the intestinal ecosystem during antimicrobial therapy.
