Overview

PBS-1 is a small molecule drug candidate developed by Phoebe Biosciences that primarily functions as an agonist of the Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING) protein. By activating the STING pathway, the compound triggers the production of Type I interferons and various pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are essential for the activation of the innate immune system and the subsequent recruitment and priming of tumor-specific T-cells. PBS-1 is being investigated as a cancer immunotherapy for the treatment of solid tumors, often intended for use in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors to enhance therapeutic efficacy in resistant tumor microenvironments. Additionally, the code name PBS-1 has been used in scientific literature to describe small molecule inhibitors of the PD-1/PD-L1 interaction developed by the same research group, suggesting it may represent a lead scaffold for multiple immunotherapy targets.
