PBS-3001

PBS-3001 is a probiotic formulation, often categorized as a psychobiotic, currently under clinical investigation for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), specifically in adolescents and young adults with a history of childhood trauma. Developed or sponsored by the Children's Hospital of Soochow University, PBS-3001 is administered as an adjunctive therapy alongside standard psychiatric treatments. Its therapeutic rationale is based on the gut-microbiota-brain axis, where the introduction of specific beneficial bacteria is intended to modulate the intestinal environment, potentially influencing systemic inflammation, neurotransmitter production, and metabolic pathways that contribute to depressive symptoms.
