Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PC-0070 is a liposomal formulation of paclitaxel developed by Changtai Pharmaceutical (PharmaMax Corp). Paclitaxel is a taxane-based small molecule that acts as a microtubule stabilizer by binding to tubulin, which promotes microtubule assembly and inhibits depolymerization. This mechanism interferes with the normal breakdown of microtubules during cell division, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. The liposomal delivery system is designed to improve the solubility of paclitaxel, eliminating the need for solvents like Cremophor EL that are associated with hypersensitivity reactions, and potentially enhancing tumor-specific delivery through the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. PC-0070 is primarily being developed for the treatment of solid tumors, including breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
