PC-1005

PC-1005 is a topical multipurpose prevention technology (MPT) gel formulated for on-demand rectal or vaginal use. It contains three active components: MIV-150 (a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor), zinc acetate dihydrate, and carrageenan. The combination is designed to provide broad-spectrum antiviral activity against HIV-1, human papillomavirus (HPV), and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). MIV-150 targets HIV by inhibiting reverse transcriptase; carrageenan acts as a barrier and has demonstrated anti-HPV properties; zinc acetate contributes additional antiviral effects. PC-1005 has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials for safety, pharmacokinetics, and ex vivo antiviral efficacy when administered rectally or vaginally in healthy adults. While the formulation showed transient tissue concentrations of MIV-150 with some ex vivo activity against HPV and HSV but not HIV after rectal administration, prior studies with vaginal application demonstrated inhibition of both HIV and HSV in cervical explant models[1][2].
