Overview

PC-18 is a standardized dry purified extract derived from the plant *Paullinia cupana*. It was investigated in two double-blind randomized clinical trials for its potential to alleviate chemotherapy-induced fatigue in early breast cancer patients. The studies compared oral doses of PC-18 (37.5 mg twice daily, or 7.5 mg/12.5 mg twice daily) against a placebo. The trials concluded that PC-18 was not superior to placebo, possibly due to an unexpectedly high antifatigue activity observed in the placebo group, which was correlated with increased magnesium levels. No significant toxicities were observed in the trials.
