Overview

PC-CHIK-V is an investigational passive immunotherapy consisting of convalescent plasma derived from individuals who have recovered from a chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection within the previous six months. Developed by the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de la Réunion, it is specifically being evaluated for the prevention of neonatal chikungunya encephalitis and encephalopathy (EE). The therapy involves the transfusion of plasma containing high titers of neutralizing anti-CHIKV antibodies to newborns whose mothers had a peripartum chikungunya infection. By neutralizing the virus, the antibodies aim to prevent or mitigate severe neurological complications in high-risk neonates during the first days of life.
