Overview

Pc2-d is an amphiphilic carbohydrate-based Zinc(II)phthalocyanine (Zn(II)Pc) derivative being investigated as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT). Its mechanism of action involves the generation of singlet oxygen, which contributes to its photodynamic activity against human cancer melanoma cells. Structural modifications, such as the replacement of oxygen with sulfur at non-peripheral positions, influence its photophysical properties and binding affinity to human serum albumin (HSA).
