Overview

PC786 is a potent inhaled small molecule antiviral drug developed for the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. It acts as a nonnucleoside inhibitor of the RSV RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (L-protein), thereby inhibiting viral replication and messenger RNA synthesis. The drug demonstrates high specificity and potency against both RSV-A and RSV-B clinical isolates, with minimal activity against other viruses. Designed for inhalation delivery, PC786 exhibits favorable pharmacokinetics including prolonged lung tissue retention and low systemic exposure. Clinical development reached Phase II trials before being discontinued for RSV infections[1][2][5][7].
