Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PCN-222-Mn (also known as PCN-222(Mn) or Mn-PCN-222) is a manganese-metalloporphyrin metal-organic framework (MOF) nanozyme being developed by Nanjing University and Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. It is designed to mimic the activities of natural antioxidant enzymes, specifically superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS). PCN-222-Mn is capable of crossing the blood-testis barrier (BTB) via endocytosis and exocytosis, allowing it to protect germ cells and associated somatic cells from chemotherapy-induced testicular injury and preserve male fertility. Additionally, due to the paramagnetic properties of its manganese ions, PCN-222-Mn exhibits high longitudinal relaxivity, enabling its use as a T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent for guided delivery and theranostic applications in cancer.
