Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PCRCR complex monoclonal antibodies are a class of monoclonal antibodies and nanobodies designed to target the essential pentameric PCRCR complex of *Plasmodium falciparum* (comprising PfPTRAMP, PfCSS, PfRipr, PfCyRPA, and PfRH5). This complex is critical for the invasion of human erythrocytes by the malaria parasite. By binding to various components of the PCRCR complex, these antibodies block the interaction between the parasite and host red blood cells (such as the binding of PfRH5 to host basigin), thereby preventing erythrocyte invasion and neutralizing parasite growth. Research has demonstrated that combinations of these antibodies can act synergistically to enhance growth inhibition activity (GIA) and potentially inactivate extracellular parasites, offering a promising strategy for next-generation blood-stage malaria vaccines and passive immunization therapies.
