PCSK9 cardiovascular vaccine is a virus-like particle (VLP)-based therapeutic vaccine being developed by AdaptVac for the treatment of cardiovascular disease and hypercholesterolemia. Utilizing AdaptVac's proprietary capsid VLP (cVLP) platform, the vaccine displays PCSK9 antigens in a highly repetitive, virus-like array to trigger a potent and durable polyclonal antibody response. These induced endogenous antibodies bind to and neutralize circulating proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), preventing it from binding to and promoting the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the surface of hepatocytes. By maintaining higher levels of LDLR, the vaccine facilitates increased clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream, potentially offering a long-acting alternative to monoclonal antibody therapies.
