"PCSK9 inhibitor + rosuvastatin" refers to a combination treatment regimen consisting of a proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor and the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor rosuvastatin. This combination is primarily utilized to achieve intensive lipid-lowering effects in patients who do not reach target low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels with statin monotherapy. PCSK9 inhibitors, typically monoclonal antibodies like evolocumab or alirocumab, work by binding to PCSK9 and preventing the degradation of LDL receptors, thereby increasing the clearance of LDL-C from the blood. Rosuvastatin, a high-intensity statin, inhibits the endogenous production of cholesterol. This specific regimen is being investigated in Phase 3 clinical trials, such as those led by Assiut University, for its potential to reduce liver steatosis in diabetic patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
