Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PCSK9 mAb biosimilar is a monoclonal antibody biosimilar under development by Saya Bio. It is designed to target and inhibit proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), a protein that plays a critical role in cholesterol homeostasis by regulating the expression of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors on the surface of hepatocytes [ADDITIONAL CONTEXT]. By binding to PCSK9, the antibody prevents it from degrading LDL receptors, thereby preserving receptor activity and increasing the clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream [ADDITIONAL CONTEXT]. The therapeutic candidate is currently in the cell line development stage of preclinical research.
