Overview

PCT3 refers to the total saponins extracted from the medicinal plant *Paris forrestii* (Takht.) H. Li, a species native to high-altitude regions of Tibet and Yunnan, China. This botanical extract contains a complex mixture of steroid glycosides that have demonstrated significant antineoplastic activity in preclinical models of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), prostate cancer, and breast cancer. PCT3 exerts its effects by inducing apoptosis through the endogenous pathway, involving the activation of Caspase-3 and the modulation of Bcl-2 family proteins (downregulating Bcl-2 and Mcl-1 while upregulating Bax). Furthermore, it has been identified as a potential agent for reversing multidrug resistance (MDR) in cancer cells by downregulating the expression of the efflux pump P-glycoprotein (P-gp) via the inhibition of the ERK signaling pathway.
