PCV-16

PCV-16 is a 16-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine being developed by TechInvention Lifecare to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). The vaccine is designed to target 16 strategically selected serotypes of *Streptococcus pneumoniae*, including 13 serotypes commonly found in existing global pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) platforms and three emerging serotypes (12F, 15A, and 22F) that are increasingly associated with antimicrobial resistance and high fatality rates in low- and middle-income countries. As a conjugate vaccine, it functions by chemically linking polysaccharide antigens from the bacterial capsule to a carrier protein. This process converts the immune response from T-cell independent to T-cell dependent, which is essential for inducing high-affinity antibodies and immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children. The project is currently in the preclinical stage and has received support for the establishment of a cGMP manufacturing facility in India.
