Overview

PCV 20-GlaxoSmithKline-varicella refers to a co-administration regimen consisting of GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) investigational live-attenuated varicella vaccine (VNS) and a 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV 20). The varicella component is derived from the Oka strain and is intended for the prevention of chickenpox (varicella) in children. The PCV 20 component is a conjugate vaccine designed to provide active immunity against 20 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae, which are responsible for invasive pneumococcal diseases such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia. This specific regimen is primarily evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to assess the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of the varicella vaccine when administered as a second dose concurrently with other routine pediatric immunizations, ensuring that co-administration does not interfere with the immune response to any individual component.
