Overview
PCV24 vaccine is a 24-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics. It is designed to provide broad protection against invasive pneumococcal disease by targeting 24 distinct serotypes of *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. The vaccine employs a dual-carrier protein strategy, conjugating capsular polysaccharides to both CRM197 (a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin) and tetanus toxoid. This approach is intended to improve immunogenicity and overcome carrier-induced epitopic suppression, potentially offering superior coverage compared to existing lower-valency conjugate vaccines. PCV24 is currently in Phase I/II clinical development for use in individuals aged 2 months and older.
