PCV3 vaccine refers to a class of experimental veterinary vaccines developed to combat Porcine Circovirus Type 3 (PCV3), a pathogen associated with porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS)-like clinical signs, reproductive failure, and multisystemic inflammation in swine. The primary antigenic target is the PCV3 capsid (Cap) protein, which is the sole structural protein of the virus and is responsible for inducing neutralizing antibodies and cellular immune responses. Research into PCV3 vaccines has explored various modalities, including recombinant subunit vaccines expressed in baculovirus or E. coli systems, virus-like particles (VLPs), and virus-like vesicles (VLVs) utilizing RNA replicon technology. While several academic institutions, such as Shanxi Agricultural University, have demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models, no commercial PCV3 vaccine has reached the market as of 2024.
