This is a neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy regimen consisting of a Programmed Cell Death Protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitor combined with the platinum-based chemotherapy agent carboplatin and the microtubule inhibitor albumin-bound paclitaxel. It is being evaluated by Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital for the treatment of resectable locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The PD-1 inhibitor works by blocking the interaction between PD-1 on T cells and its ligands (PD-L1/PD-L2) on tumor cells, thereby restoring anti-tumor immune responses. Carboplatin induces DNA cross-linking, interfering with DNA repair and synthesis, while albumin-bound paclitaxel inhibits microtubule disassembly, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. This combination aims to reduce tumor size and improve surgical outcomes and survival in patients with advanced head and neck cancers.
