PD-1 monoclonal antibody + docetaxel + cisplatin is an investigational neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy regimen being evaluated for the treatment of locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Developed under the leadership of investigator Jiang Feng at Sun Yat-sen University, the regimen combines a programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) checkpoint inhibitor with a chemotherapy backbone consisting of docetaxel and cisplatin (TP chemotherapy). The combination is designed to enhance the immune system's ability to recognize and destroy tumor cells while simultaneously utilizing the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy to reduce tumor burden and release neoantigens. This approach is being studied in Phase 2 trials to determine its efficacy in achieving major pathological responses (mPR) and improving long-term survival, often in conjunction with other modalities like stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) or cetuximab.
