Overview

PD128907 is a synthetic small molecule used in scientific research as a potent and selective agonist for **dopamine D2** and **dopamine D3 receptors**[1][3][7][8]. It is primarily employed to study dopaminergic signaling, especially the role of D3 and D2 receptors as inhibitory autoreceptors that regulate dopamine release and other neurotransmitter outputs[1][9][10]. PD128907 exhibits 18-200 fold selectivity for the dopamine D3 receptor over other dopamine receptor subtypes[7], making it a pharmacological tool to probe the D3 receptor function in neuropsychiatric and neurobehavioral research, including studies on locomotor activity, novelty responses, and the neurochemical effects of dopamine agonists[10]. PD128907 has also been investigated for its ability to reduce neurotoxicity in models of cocaine overdose[1]. It is not used clinically or marketed as a therapeutic.
