Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PDA-TFPC-COF is a two-dimensional (2D) imine-linked covalent organic framework (COF) synthesized via the Schiff-base condensation of p-phenylenediamine (PDA) and tri(4-formylphenoxy)cyanurate (TFPC). Developed for the localized treatment of chronic wound infections, this biomaterial exhibits inherent broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive (e.g., Bacillus spp.) and Gram-negative (e.g., Escherichia coli) bacteria. Its mechanism of action is hypothesized to involve bacterial membrane disruption or the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Additionally, the highly porous crystalline structure of PDA-TFPC-COF allows it to function as a drug delivery vehicle for the sustained and controlled release of co-loaded antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin, thereby enhancing localized antimicrobial efficacy.
