Overview
PDGF-BB-neutralizing antibody refers to any antibody designed to bind and neutralize platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB). PDGF-BB is a homodimeric growth factor that plays a critical role in cell proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis. In the context of neurodegenerative diseases, bone-derived pre-osteoclast-secreted PDGF-BB has been linked to blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction, pericyte loss, and impaired amyloid-beta clearance. Preclinical research, such as studies conducted at Johns Hopkins University, has demonstrated that neutralizing circulating PDGF-BB with a specific antibody can restore BBB integrity, enhance amyloid-beta efflux, and reduce cortical plaque burden, suggesting a novel therapeutic avenue for slowing the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
