Overview

PDL-506 is a chemical drug initially developed by Photonamic GmbH & Co. KG for use in oncology and dermatology. It was investigated primarily as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT), including intraoperative visualization of breast cancer tissue and stereotactic interstitial photodynamic therapy (iPDT) in newly diagnosed supratentorial IDH wild-type glioblastoma. The drug's mechanism involves acting as a photosensitizing agent, which, upon activation by specific wavelengths of light, produces reactive oxygen species that can destroy targeted tumor cells. Clinical development reached phase 2 trials but has since been discontinued[1][2][4].
