Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PE-001 is a small molecule selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) currently in Phase 3 clinical development for the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE). Developed by Original Research Pharmaceutical Port Life Sciences Research (Liaoning) Co., Ltd., PE-001 is designed to delay the ejaculatory reflex by increasing serotonin levels in the synaptic cleft through the inhibition of the serotonin transporter (SERT). This mechanism is consistent with other treatments in the SSRI class used for PE, such as dapoxetine, but PE-001 is being evaluated for its specific pharmacokinetic profile and efficacy in the Chinese patient population. The drug is typically administered orally in tablet form.
