Overview
Pearl Mingmu (Zhenzhu Mingmu) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) ophthalmic preparation commonly formulated as eye drops. The product typically contains pearl liquid (an aqueous extract derived from pearls) and borneol as its primary active ingredients. It is widely utilized in China for the relief of visual fatigue (asthenopia), symptoms of dry eye disease, and chronic conjunctivitis. The pearl extract is rich in amino acids and minerals, traditionally believed to clear heat and improve vision, while borneol provides a cooling sensation and acts as a mild topical analgesic and anti-inflammatory agent. Clinical studies, including those registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR), have evaluated its efficacy in improving tear film stability and reducing eye strain associated with prolonged electronic screen use.
