Pearl powder is a natural substance derived from crushed pearls, primarily composed of calcium carbonate along with various amino acids and trace minerals. In the field of restorative dentistry, it is being investigated for its potential to promote the remineralization of enamel white spot lesions (WSLs), which are early-stage carious lesions characterized by subsurface demineralization. The powder is formulated into a gel for topical application, where it serves as a source of bioavailable calcium and phosphate ions to restore the mineral density of the tooth structure. A Phase 2 clinical trial led by Ruba Alaa El Din Adel El Damarisy is currently evaluating the efficacy of pearl powder gel compared to Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (CPP-ACP) in patients with post-orthodontic white spot lesions.
