Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PED vaccine is a veterinary recombinant chimeric protein subunit vaccine being developed by Pharos Vaccine (also referred to as Pharos Biologicals) for the prevention of porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED). Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a highly contagious coronavirus that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration in pigs, leading to high mortality rates in suckling piglets. Unlike traditional inactivated or live-attenuated vaccines, this vaccine utilizes protein engineering platform technology to express chimeric recombinant proteins as immunogens, which avoids the safety risks associated with live pathogens and allows for rapid adaptation to viral mutations. The vaccine is currently in preclinical development, specifically in the formulation development stage.
