Pediacel

Pediacel is a pentavalent combination vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur for the active immunization of infants and children. It provides protection against five major pediatric diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis, and invasive disease caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib). The vaccine formulation includes diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, a five-component acellular pertussis (aP) component (pertussis toxoid, filamentous haemagglutinin, pertactin, and fimbriae types 2 and 3), inactivated poliovirus (IPV) types 1, 2, and 3, and Hib capsular polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate) conjugated to tetanus protein. It was a standard component of the United Kingdom's primary immunization schedule, typically administered at 2, 3, and 4 months of age, before being replaced by hexavalent vaccines.
