Pediacel + Prevenar

Pediacel + Prevenar is a combination immunization regimen consisting of two separate vaccines administered together to provide broad protection against multiple serious childhood diseases. **Pediacel** is a pentavalent vaccine that protects against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis (polio), and invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. It contains diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, five acellular pertussis antigens [pertussis toxoid (PT), filamentous haemagglutinin (FHA), pertactin (PRN), fimbriae types 2 & 3], inactivated poliovirus types 1-3, and purified polyribosylribitol phosphate capsular polysaccharide from H. influenzae type b conjugated to tetanus protein[1][4][6]. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against these pathogens. **Prevenar** refers to the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine; most commonly this means Prevenar 13/Prevnar 13 (pneumococcal polysaccharide serotypes conjugated individually to CRM197 protein). It provides protection against Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes included in the vaccine by inducing an immune response via T-cell dependent mechanisms[7]. Together, this combination covers diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio types 1-3, Hib disease caused by H. influenzae type b as well as invasive pneumococcal disease due to S. pneumoniae serotypes present in Prevenar.
