The PEDv veterinary RNA particle vaccine is an alphavirus RNA replicon particle (RP)-based vaccine developed by **AlphaVax** in partnership with **Merck Animal Health** (Intervet). It is designed to protect swine against **Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV)**, a highly contagious alphacoronavirus that causes severe enteric disease, acute diarrhea, and dehydration in pigs, with high mortality rates in neonatal piglets. The vaccine utilizes AlphaVax's proprietary **Viral Replicon Particle (VRP)** technology, which employs an attenuated alphavirus vector engineered to express the PEDV Spike (S) glycoprotein. This glycoprotein is the primary biological target for eliciting neutralizing antibodies, as it mediates viral attachment and entry into host cells. The RNA particle platform enables rapid vaccine development and production without the requirement for live microorganisms, inducing both systemic and mucosal immune responses in the target animal population.
