PEG-Mizone

**PEG-Mizone** is a trial-defined oral bowel-cleansing regimen in which macrogol 4000, also called polyethylene glycol 4000, is dissolved partly in Mizone vitamin drink and partly in water before colonoscopy. In the registered randomized study, the regimen used split dosing with 60 g macrogol 4000 in 0.6 L Mizone plus 0.4 L water the evening before colonoscopy, followed by 120 g macrogol 4000 in 1.2 L Mizone plus 0.8 L water on the procedure day. Macrogol 4000 acts as a nonabsorbed osmotic laxative that retains water in the intestinal lumen to promote bowel evacuation; Mizone was used as a palatability and hydration beverage adjunct rather than as a separately developed pharmaceutical active ingredient.
