Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PEG-TRAIL is a PEGylated (polyethylene glycol-conjugated) form of TRAIL (Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand), a recombinant protein designed as an anti-cancer agent. PEGylation increases the molecular weight of TRAIL, allowing for improved pharmacokinetics, increased serum half-life, protracted in vivo activity, and reduced immunogenicity compared to unmodified TRAIL. TRAIL induces apoptosis in cancer cells by binding to death receptors DR4 and DR5, selectively triggering cell death in tumor tissue while generally sparing normal cells. PEG-TRAIL is the subject of preclinical and investigational studies as a targeted anti-cancer therapy, most notably to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of TRAIL in vivo[3][5][7].
