Overview
Pegfilgrastim Megalabs is a biosimilar candidate of pegfilgrastim, a PEGylated recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). Developed by Megalabs, it is intended for the management of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. The drug functions as an agonist at the G-CSF receptor, promoting the proliferation and differentiation of neutrophil progenitor cells and enhancing the effector functions of mature neutrophils. The addition of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) moiety to the filgrastim molecule reduces renal clearance and extends its half-life, enabling a single dose per chemotherapy cycle. Clinical development has included Phase I studies comparing its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles to the reference product Neulastim (Neulasta).
