Pegfosimer manganese is a novel, lesion-selective magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent developed to enhance the visualization of soft tissue lesions such as those found in endometriosis and solid tumors. It consists of polymer nanoparticles loaded with manganese ions, designed for selective accumulation in pathological tissues due to their unique physiological properties. The agent provides clinically relevant MRI contrast enhancement with an acceptable safety profile demonstrated in phase I and IIa clinical studies. Pegfosimer manganese has shown particular promise for improving the precision of MRI-based detection and staging of endometriosis and breast cancer lesions. Its mechanism relies on enhancing MRI signal intensity by acting as a T1-weighted contrast enhancer through its paramagnetic properties[1][2][5][7].
