Overview
Peginesatide is a synthetic, PEGylated peptide that acts as an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA). It is designed to mimic the activity of endogenous erythropoietin by selectively binding and activating the erythropoietin receptor on progenitor cells in the bone marrow. This stimulation promotes proliferation and differentiation of erythroid progenitor cells, leading to increased red blood cell production. Peginesatide was developed for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly in adult patients on dialysis. Its long half-life allows for once-monthly dosing, improving patient compliance compared to more frequent ESA regimens[1][2][3][4]. In China, it is marketed as 圣罗莱 (Shengluolai) and is notable for being a highly selective EPO receptor agonist with low immunogenicity[4].
