Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of peginterferon alfa-2a, ribavirin, and betaine that was investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, particularly for non-responders or relapsers to previous therapy. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a pegylated form of interferon alfa-2a that has a longer half-life allowing for once-weekly dosing. Ribavirin is an antiviral medication that enhances the efficacy of interferon therapy. Betaine was added to this standard combination as an experimental approach.
