Overview

This is a combination regimen consisting of peginterferon alfa-2a, ribavirin, and epoetin beta. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a recombinant, pegylated form of interferon alpha used as an immunomodulatory antiviral agent. Ribavirin is a nucleoside analog with broad-spectrum antiviral activity that enhances the efficacy of interferons in treating chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Epoetin beta is a recombinant human erythropoietin used to manage anemia induced by interferon/ribavirin therapy, particularly in patients with chronic HCV who develop significant treatment-related anemia[1][5]. The primary indication for this combination is the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection, especially in patients at risk for or experiencing significant anemia during therapy.
